Every day, approximately 1.2 billion people worldwide communicate via the app. But we mostly use WhatsApp for messaging and unwind by sharing personal information. And we do so without concern because WhatsApp provides secure end-to-end encryption. However, despite this security, there remains a hidden threat that very few smartphone users are aware of. If you even blink an eye, it turns out that someone can easily snoop on your WhatsApp conversations without having any prior hacking skills.

On 9 October a ESET report shows that WhatsApp is spying on Indian users and reading their chats. The founder of the messaging app Telegram has urged people to use “any messaging app” except WhatsApp to avoid their phone being hacked. He added “Every year we learn about some issue in WhatsApp that puts everything on their users’ devices at risk”. That’s true.

Pavel Durov (CEO of Telegram) cited a security flaw discovered by WhatsApp last week, which allowed a hacker to hijack a person’s phone by sending a malicious video to their phone number.

Always remember that no one social media platform are secure. Kristen Bolig, CEO at Security Nerd says that “Any social media platform has security risks, and every platform has hackers attempting to break through its security measures,”
