Food is the most fundamental need for human beings. Unfortunately, more than 820 million people worldwide go hungry everyday. A new UN report says that 10.8% of the world’s population does not have enough to eat. That means one in every nine people globally faces hunger on a daily basis.

The number of people who suffer from hunger began to slowly increase again in 2015. Current estimates show that nearly 690 million people are hungry, up by 10 million people in one year. If recent trends continue, the number of people affected by hunger would surpass 840 million by 2030.
